Job summary

The Prospect Park YMCA, part of the YMCA of Greater New York, is seeking a Volleyball Sports Instructor to work with children and teens. You will design progressive lessons, supervise activities, and promote safe, inclusive participation in sports.

You will communicate with families and ensure equipment safety and program cleanliness. Ideal candidates have a high school diploma, 1 year coaching experience, current First Aid/CPR, and complete YMCA Coach training within 90 days plus CDC HEADS UP

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent is required.
• Minimum of one year of experience teaching children/teens sports in a structured setting.
• Knowledge of youth development stages.
• Content expert in designated sports activity.
• Ability to communicate effectively with members of all ages.
• Current First Aid or CPR certifications.
• Must attend YMCA Coaching 101 Training within 90 days of employment.
• Must receive the CDC HEADS UP Concussion in Youth Sports certificate within 30 days of employment.

Responsibilities

• Develop program objectives and goals for each session with supervision.
• Create age-appropriate, progressive written lesson plans.
• Supervise participants in line with YMCA standards (ratio, attendance).
• Modify lesson plans to meet participant needs.
• Teach rules and fundamentals and enhance basic skills.
• Communicate progress to parents/guardians and for future sessions.
• Ensure equipment is safe and in good condition; conduct monthly checks.
• Lead program promotion and recruitment efforts with supervision.
• Direct volunteers or Sports Assistants when applicable.
• Follow emergency procedures and maintain a clean program space.
