Job summary

YMCA Frankfort is seeking a part-time Flag Football Referee to oversee youth games on Sundays during the upcoming season. You will ensure safe play, start games with a prayer, and enforce fair calls.

You will arrive early, review the field, manage the game flow, and demonstrate sportsmanship by encouraging high fives and respectful conduct from players, coaches, and parents.

Qualifications

• Must be competent in performing each essential duty.
• Must take initiative, have strong time management skills and work independently.
• Must have excellent human relation skills and be able to work effectively with staff members, volunteers and the public.
• Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions.

Responsibilities

• Arrives 10 minutes prior to your first game.
• Look over the field/court to ensure safety for the children.
• Begin each game with the Coach’s Prayer.
• Call the games fairly. No favoritism!
• Enforce sportsmanship and de-emphasize winning.
• Let participants know what they did wrong to learn from mistakes.
• Be respectful to coaches, participants and parents.
• At the end of every game, ensure teams high five or shake hands for sportsmanship.
• Make the games fun for the participants.
• Afterward, return all equipment to its place; watches and shirts are not to be kept.

JOB DESCRIPTION
Referees team sports (Flag Football), encourages sportsmanship and encourages children to build their confidence through sports.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

• Arrives 10 minutes prior to your first game
• Look over the field/court to make sure everything is safe for the children to play on.
• Begin each game with the Coach’s Prayer
• Call the games fairly. No favoritism!
• Enforce sportsmanship and de-emphasize winning
• Let the participants know what they did wrong if you call something against them so that they can learn from their mistakes.
• Be respectful to the coaches, participants and parents.
• At the end of every game, make sure that both teams high five or shake each other’s hands as a sign of good sportsmanship.
• Make the games fun for the participants
• Before leaving, make sure that everything is put back properly and nothing is left out that should be put up. Time watches and ref shirts are not yours to keep! Please put them back where you got them!!! (Exceptions are if you provided your own).

QUALIFICATIONS

To successfully accomplish this job, an individual must be competent in performing each essential duty. Season Dates: August 30, 2026 – October 25, 2026

Game Days: Sundays

Game Location: Western Hills High School (WHHS)

Age Divisions:

• 4U/6U
• 8U
• 10U
• 12U
• 14U

Earliest Game Time: 1:00 PM

Latest Possible Game Time: 6:00 PM

Games will typically be scheduled between 1:00 PM and 6:00 PM, depending on the number of teams and games scheduled each week.

No Games: Sunday, October 4, 2026

The exact number of games and game times will vary each week based on registration numbers and the final season schedule. Referee assignments and schedules will be distributed prior to the start of the season.
