Description

With a job in Youth Sports, you can help young athletes grow as players and individuals. Your part-time role at the Y can make a lifelong impact on the children in your community! We’re looking for officials and gym monitors who can help us keep our seasonal sports programs running smoothly, putting the development of players at the forefront of all we do.

Position Description

Officiate the Y Sports under the principles of Character Development and the guidelines and curriculum produced for the program.

Duties and Responsibilities
  • Must stay current in CPR, PR, AED, O2, and First Aid, renewed annually.
  • Attend and complete YMCA officials training if offered.
  • Complete Bloodborne Pathogens, Sexual Harassment, and Child Abuse Prevention training within 30 days of hire and renew annually.
  • Arrive prior to scheduled games and stay late as needed.
  • Ensure the YMCA Pledge is said before each game.
  • Communicate problems and concerns following the chain of command, sharing feedback from participants with the program director.
  • Relate to all participants courteously, respectfully, and professionally.
  • Enforce YMCA rules confidently to carry out the program.
  • Address and respond to actions not in line with YMCA mission or philosophy.
  • Maintain a safe environment by organizing and maintaining the program area and equipment.
  • Report incidents to the supervisor.
  • Implement emergency action plans when needed.
  • Be impartial and fair as an official.
  • Keep the sport fun and help players learn the game as appropriate.
  • Set up and inspect playing surfaces prior to games.
  • Communicate effectively with parents, coaches, participants, and volunteers.
  • Accept responsibility for the association-wide sports program as needed.
  • Develop meaningful relationships with members, donors, and volunteers.

Positive results occur when participants enjoy the experience, improve skills, make friends, exercise, and compete.

Requirements
  • Must stay current in CPR, AED, O2, and First Aid, renewed annually (training provided if needed).
  • Complete officials training and all required compliance trainings within 30 days of hire, renewed annually.
  • Have a working knowledge of the sport and understand the Y mission and core values.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to walk or stand for long periods and lift up to 75 lbs.
