GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the Youth Sports Director and in accordance with YMCA policies, a Youth Sports Instructor should be able to motivate others in the areas of self-awareness and self-confidence through coaching and supervising. They should communicate effectively with members, parents, and students, exercising mature judgment and sound decision-making.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  1. Referee, coach, and supervise various youth sports programs.
  2. Create a welcoming, nurturing, and genuine environment for all members and guests.
  3. Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
  4. Work collaboratively as part of a team with other staff.
  5. Provide a safe and welcoming environment.
  6. Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
  7. Respond to emergency situations per YMCA policies; complete incident and accident reports as needed.
  8. Check youth sports equipment in storage and report issues promptly.
  9. Set up and put away equipment before and after programs.
  10. Participate in and complete in-service trainings.
  11. Uphold YMCA core values with people within the facilities and community.
  12. Work scheduled shifts; obtain approval for substitutes from the Youth Director.
Qualifications

Education and Experience: Candidates should have a positive, outgoing attitude and be committed to providing a fun and safe environment for youth. Must be at least 16 years old, exercise good judgment, relate positively but firmly, observe safety protocols, react calmly in emergencies, communicate YMCA program information effectively, lift at least 50 lbs., and have full body mobility.
