GENERAL FUNCTIONS

Under the direction of the Youth Sports Director and in accordance with Association policies, a Youth Sports Instructor should motivate others in self-awareness and self-confidence through coaching and supervising. They should effectively communicate with members, parents, and students, exercising mature judgment and sound decision-making.


ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES


  1. Referee, coach, and/or supervise various youth sports programs.
  2. Create a welcoming, nurturing, and genuine environment for all members and guests.
  3. Develop rapport and maintain effective relationships with members, participants, and staff.
  4. Work collaboratively with other staff members.
  5. Provide a safe and welcoming environment.
  6. Enforce health and safety rules and maintain emergency readiness.
  7. Respond to emergency situations per YMCA policies; complete incident reports as needed.
  8. Check youth sports equipment and report issues promptly.
  9. Set up and put away equipment before and after programs.
  10. Complete mandatory in-service trainings.
  11. Uphold YMCA’s core values in all interactions.
  12. Work scheduled shifts; arrange substitutes with prior approval from the Youth Director.
Qualifications

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

Applicants must be at least 16 years old, with the ability to exercise mature judgment, relate positively yet firmly, observe, react calmly in emergencies, communicate YMCA programs effectively, lift at least 50 lbs., and have full body mobility. A positive, outgoing attitude and a commitment to safety are essential.
