The award-winning Brooklyn Park Recreation and Parks Department is looking for highly motivated, team-oriented, and enthusiastic individuals who have a desire to make difference in Brooklyn Park by instructing/coaching sports classes and camps. A youth sports instructor lead sports' classes and camps for youth and will work under the general supervision of the Recreation Program Supervisor. This position will be primarily working various hours between 4:30 – 8:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday June-August.
A Youth Sports Instructor is a member of the Recreation and Parks staff team that works together to develop innovative service delivery methods and programs focused on quality partnerships, service to our community and achieving successful results.

- Demonstrate sports skills competently
- Maintain order and assure participants are following set lesson plans and program policies
- Promote the sports program through positive relationships with participants and parents
- Communicate effectively with participants and parents/guardians/adults of participants, and supervisors
- Report to assigned location on time
- Report any incidents and assist with completing the required report
- Perform other duties as assigned or apparent
EducationNo education requirement
Experience- 15 years of age or older
- Knowledge of general sports and games, with a willingness to learn leading youth sports programs
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities- Ability to interact with participants and parents/guardians in a responsible and professional manner
- Ability to communicate effectively and respond with tact and courtesy
- Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision
- Ability to effectively work with youth and parents
- Ability to make rational and appropriate decisions based on established policy and procedure

Desired Qualifications- Experience leading sports classes/camps or head coaching in youth sports with a knowledge of general sports and games
- Three (3)+ years of experience lead teaching or head coaching baseball, basketball, golf, tennis, volleyball, preschool programs or physical education.
- Previous experience working with people from various cultural, socioeconomic, racial, and ethnic backgrounds
- Fluency in Spanish, Hmong, Russian, Somali, Lao or Vietnamese

Anticipated Work Schedule: This is a seasonal position that will work up to 20 hours per week. This position will be primarily working various hours between 4:30 – 8:30 p.m., Monday-Thursday June-August. Shifts are available 2-4 evenings per week.
Anticipated Hiring Wage:$14.85-$21.22, depending on qualifications
