Job summary

The YMCA of Greater New York is seeking a Youth Coach/Trainer for the Dodge YMCA in Brooklyn, NY. This part-time role focuses on teaching progressive youth sports skills, promoting safe, inclusive participation, and fostering teamwork among children and teens.

You will schedule practices and games, adapt coaching styles to learners, and communicate with parents. Weekend availability is required, with an emphasis on Saturday evenings and a positive, growth‑minded environment.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or equivalent required.
• Minimum of two years coaching children/teens in a structured setting.
• Coaching license preferred.
• Current First Aid or CPR certifications.
• YMCA Coaching 101 training within 90 days of hire.
• CDC HEADS UP concussion certification within 30 days.
• Child Abuse Prevention certificate within 30 days.
• Passion for youth development and knowledge of youth development stages.
• Content expert in the designated sport(s).
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Available to work Saturday evenings.

Responsibilities

• Lead a group of children/teens and teach progressive skill development in a designated sport.
• Provide a safe, positive experience and foster inclusive learning.
• Schedule practices and games; create age-appropriate plans.
• Communicate with parents/guardians about schedules and opportunities.
• Ensure equipment safety and participate in promotion and recruitment.
• Supervise players and adapt coaching styles to participants’ needs.
• Participate in meetings, trainings, and events.
