Job summary

The City of Fremont is seeking an Assistant Recreation staff member to instruct youth and adult participants in beginner to intermediate sports programs (e.g., basketball, badminton, soccer, tennis). You will teach game mechanics, strategies, and rules while emphasizing sportsmanship and teamwork.

Responsibilities include setting up facilities, delivering lesson plans, maintaining rosters, and supporting promotional events.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 15 years old.
• Basic knowledge or background in basketball.
• Experience dealing with children.
• Ability to work independently and complete tasks.
• Ability to communicate with children and provide feedback to parents.
• Ability to establish productive relationships with staff, management, and clients.
• Strong oral and written communication skills.
• Positive attitude with others.
• Ability to work in changing indoor and outdoor environments.
• Availability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

• Prepare area for specific sport (set up gym/field, ensure equipment).
• Teach necessary aspects of sports.
• Keep score of games where applicable.
• Maintain rosters and City forms.
• Implement lesson plans provided by the City.
• Enforce City policies and procedures.
• Provide encouragement and a positive atmosphere for play.
• Participate in promotional opportunities, staff training and meetings.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
