Job summary

Bernalillo County is seeking a Laundry Attendant for the Youth Services Center, located at 5100 Second St NW. The role involves sorting soiled laundry, operating washers and dryers, and maintaining a clean, organized work area in a facility setting.

Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, inventory monitoring, minor repairs, and ensuring safety compliance. The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and the ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED or be at least 16 years old and enrolled in school.
• Successful completion of a post-offer employment medical examination.
• Possession of a valid New Mexico driver’s license by date of hire and maintenance of a valid license while employed.
• Complete required supervisor training, if applicable.

Responsibilities

• Receive and sort soiled laundry by residential unit and item type, including clothing, bedding, and towels.
• Load and unload washers and dryers; select appropriate settings and measure laundry chemicals as needed.
• Operate washers and dryers in accordance with safety guidelines; weigh and fold clean items, return laundered items to designated areas.
• Perform light equipment maintenance, including daily lint removal and routine cleaning of machines.
• Maintain a neat and organized laundry area; report equipment issues, malfunctions, or safety hazards to the supervisor.
• Monitor supplies, clothing, and linen inventories; notify supervisor when items need restocking or replacement.
• Mend minor damage to clothing and linens, such as small tears or loose seams.
• Clean and disinfect laundry machines and work areas as needed to maintain a sanitary environment.
• Secure all laundry-related equipment, keys, and supplies; document laundry activity in accordance with American Correctional Association and Children, Youth & Families Department standards.
