Job summary

Polk County Juvenile Detention Center is seeking a Youth Services Aide to support care, security, welfare, and custody of youth under supervision. This role includes assisting with health checks, medication dispensing, and maintaining secure, orderly facilities.

The position requires a high school diploma or equivalent and at least six months of experience in an institutional setting serving youth. Certifications in Safe Crisis Management and CPR/First Aid are required within six months of hire.

Qualifications

• Six months relevant experience in an institutional setting providing for the welfare/detention of youth.
• Candidate must pass post-offer physical examination and physical capacity testing.
• Candidate must obtain Safe Crisis Management certification within six months of hire.
• Candidate must obtain CPR/AED and First Aid and Medication Manager certification within six months of hire.

Responsibilities

• Assist in ensuring health, safety, and welfare of youth; maintain security through checks and reporting.
• Perform minor medical duties including dispensing medication and health checks.
• Maintain professional interaction with youth and enforce facility rules.
• Prepare verbal, written, and computerized shift reports and update logs.
• Perform laundry and light housekeeping; report maintenance needs.
• Assist with admissions/discharges and interviews with youth, guardians, and authorities.
• Provide back-up support for Youth Services Workers and transport youth as needed.
• Attend monthly staff meetings; participate in ongoing training as required.
• May transport youth outside the facility and escort visitors as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
