Job summary

Proteus, Inc. is seeking a motivated program coordinator to enhance workforce investment activities for migrant and seasonal farmworker youth. You will drive enrollments in NFJP, connect youth to education and vocational services, and coordinate with partners to expand career opportunities.

The role requires evening/weekend availability, strong communication, and collaboration with schools, employers, and community partners to empower youth toward self-sufficiency.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent; associate degree or two years related experience recommended.
  • Moderate computer skills with Word and Excel required.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, write routine reports, and present to groups.

Responsibilities

  • Conduct program presentations to recruit and enroll eligible youth.
  • Assist in linking ineligible participants to other services.
  • Connect eligible youths to co-enrollment services (education, internships, etc.).
  • Collaborate with Marketing to promote youth services via social media and videos.
  • Coordinate with workforce systems and schools to identify participants.
  • Lead youth workshops on financial literacy, career planning, and self-esteem.
  • Support recruitment into education programs at the William M. Maguy School of Education.
  • Arrange job placement, work experiences, and internships with employers.
  • Occasional evening/weekend work and report preparation.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Responsible for enhancing the delivery of Workforce Investment Activities to Migrant and Seasonal Farmworker Youth by increasing access to program enrollment, education, career services, and vocational training

ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES

include the following:

  1. 1. Conducts program presentations to community partners to help recruit and enroll eligible youth into Proteus’ Department of Labor, National Farmworker Jobs Program (NFJP).
  2. 2. Assists youth who are determined not eligible for NFJP services and connects them to other services offered by non-NFJP WIOA Youth Services staff and community partners.
  3. 3. Works with staff to connect eligible participants into Proteus’ co-enrollment services that include educational, leadership, internships, volunteer work, mentorships, training, and other workforce development services opportunities.
  4. 4. Works with internal Marketing and Communications Department to promote youth services via social media, brand marketing, website design, and youth focused videos to highlight Proteus’ mission.
  5. 5. Works with the America’ Job Center of California workforce connection system, state monitor advocate, local high schools, adult schools, community colleges, Department of Migrant Education, and other entities to identify and enroll eligible farmworker youth participants.
  6. 6. Conducts youth workshops on various topics that may include financial literacy, student success, career planning, self-esteem and confidence building, and other topics as needed.
  7. 7. Works with staff to help recruit youth participants into training, secondary or post-secondary education programs offered at the William M. Maguy School of Education.
  8. 8. Contacts employers to assist in the development of job placement, work experience, and internship opportunities for youth participants.
  9. 9. The position will require some evening and weekend attendance; preparation of reports; and other duties may be assigned.
POSITION QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

High school graduate or equivalent; and associate’s degree in a related field or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school; or two years of directly related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

COMPUTER SKILLS:

Moderate computer skills required for data entry, Word, Excel, and other software programs, as required for the position.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read, and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedures manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers, employees, or organizations.

MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra.

REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS:

Access to transportation, a California driver's license, and the minimum vehicle insurance needed by law.

TRAVEL REQUIREMENT:

Will require weekly travel to local Proteus offices or events at 0% of the weekly schedule and other assigned divisional areas. Travel is primarily local during the business day, although some out-of-area and overnight travel may be expected.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
  • Employees are regularly required to stand and use their hands to finger, handle, or feel. The employee is frequently required to walk: reach with hands and arms; sit, kneel, stoop, climb, or balance.
  • Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
  • Travel to other locations and outside training.
  • Ability to lift and/or move up to 15 pounds and ability to maneuver a dolly.
