Job summary

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) oversees child welfare, foster care, and juvenile justice services in New York City, providing essential supports to families and youth. The Community Coordinator role focuses on developing programs for detained youth and coordinating with DYFJ and contracted providers to improve outcomes.

This position requires a baccalaureate degree or equivalent experience, with willingness to work in a 24/7 secure detention setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree or higher required; or high school diploma with six years of community work experience.
• Experience working with justice-involved, at-risk, or underserved youth is preferred.
• Ability to de-escalate crisis situations and manage challenging behaviors.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement cultural, educational, and recreational programming for Secure Detention youth.
• Work with youth to promote teamwork, leadership, problem-solving, and critical thinking.
• Build self-confidence and contribute to violence reduction through activities and relationship-building.
• Promote healthy lifestyles through sports, physical activity, and nutrition.
• Assist with training staff and contracted providers to implement programming.
