Job summary

Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) seeks a Community Coordinator to develop and implement youth programs within a Secure Detention setting in NYC. You will collaborate with Youth Development Specialists, contracted providers, and the Department of Education to deliver cultural, educational, and recreational activities year-round.

The role emphasizes working with at-risk youth, crisis de-escalation, and coordinating workshops, life skills, and counseling in a detention context.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or higher required; two years in community work or related fields.
• HS diploma with six years of relevant experience accepted as alternative.

Responsibilities

• Work with Youth Development Specialists, providers, and DOE to create cultural, educational, and recreational programs for Secure Detention youth.
• Directly engage youth to develop programs promoting teamwork, leadership, and critical thinking.
• Help youth build self-confidence and contribute to violence reduction through activities and relationships.
• Promote healthy lifestyles through sports, exercise, and nutrition; support events and projects.
• Assist in evaluating programs via surveys and observations to provide improvement feedback.
• Coordinate with DYFJ contractors and manage vendor-related tasks and contracts.
• Prepare monthly provider meetings, progress reports, and annual vendor evaluations.
• Learn new program modules and train staff and providers to implement programs.
