Job summary

The City of Temple, TX is seeking an Assistant Librarian – Youth to join the Youth Services team. Under supervision, you will run and support programs for children, teens, and families, assist patrons, and help create a welcoming library environment.

You will collaborate with Youth Services and Outreach to deliver events in library and community settings, provide reference and reader advisory services, and assist with daily operations and outreach efforts.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent.
• Two years of experience in public library.
• Experience in library programming and youth services preferred.

Responsibilities

• Prepares and presents programs for children, teens, and families.
• Collaborates with Youth Services to present programs and events for all ages both in library and out in the community.
• Assists with daily Youth Services operations.
• Provides library outreach at community events.
• Assists with the daily operations of assigned area.
• Provides exceptional service without exception.
• Works collaboratively on programming and strategic initiatives.
• Provides reference and reader’s advisory guidance through reference interviews and literature searches.
• Maintains an awareness of literature services, reference sources, professional trends, methods, and ethics, and implements this knowledge in library services and programs.
• Provides technology assistance and computer training to patrons, and assists them with self-service equipment, technology, and facilities.
• Assists in maintaining shelves and creating book displays, bulletin boards, bibliographies, and other informational materials.
• Processes transactions involving cash through the Library’s ILS and/or cash register.
• Calculates and maintains statistics and records for the department.
• Uses initiative and sound judgment to troubleshoot, set priorities, and make decisions.
• Follows City policies, procedures, and safety guidelines.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
