Job summary

The Salvation Army GAINS Program in New York seeks a Group Leader I to support Corps Officers and the Program Directors in daily operations of the School-Age Child Care program. The role includes oversight of a group of children and a specialized activity, plus lead­ership of assigned staff.

The ideal candidate is teachable, with youth or camp programming experience, a High School Diploma or equivalent (Associates preferred), CPR & First Aid certifications, and availability for all program hours

Qualifications

• Requires High School Diploma or equivalent.
• 3+ years experience in youth or camp programming.
• Leadership experience with peers.
• Current CPR & First Aid Certifications.
• Availability for the entire program hours (2:15–6 PM during school year; 8 AM–6 PM on holidays and summer).

Responsibilities

• Involvement in the total program with willingness to help in all areas as needed.
• Promote observance of the moral and ethical code affecting children and staff.
• Assists Program Director in advancing the mission of The Salvation Army GAINS Program.
• Write, facilitate and submit lesson plans for assigned classes.
• Coordinate daily assembly as assigned by the Program Director.
• Organize, direct and instruct assigned activity program geared to all ages.
• Assist Program Director and Corps Officers, and provide leadership to assigned children and staff.
• Complete a Debrief at the end of the school year & summer camp session.
