Job summary

University Settlement Society of New York is seeking a motivated youth program assistant to lead activities for up to 20 youth after school in Lower Manhattan or Brooklyn. You will design lessons using positive youth development and provide homework support.

The role requires a HS diploma or HSE, is 18+, energetic, reliable, and able to work as part of a team with a co-counselor and supervisor. Schedule is part-time, 17.5 hours weekly after school, with specific days listed.

Qualifications

• HS diploma or equivalent required.
• Experience with middle/high school youth helpful.
• Ability to design engaging, multidisciplinary activities.

Responsibilities

• Create and lead engaging activities for up to 20 youth, ensuring safety and comfort of students throughout program.
• Design and implement lesson plans for multidisciplinary activities using knowledge of positive youth development and incorporating student feedback throughout the school year.
• Ensure that academic assistance is provided during homework period.
• Plan and involve children in a range of multidisciplinary activities, design and implement thematic based lessons.
• Serve as a positive role model for youth and uphold professional behavior at all times.
• Work constructively with co-counselor and other colleagues; communicate regularly with supervisory staff.
• Communicate with parents and caregivers regarding student progress and problem solving.
• Maintain responsibility for designated program supplies and proper use of all facilities, including classrooms.
• Complete all necessary documentation and administrative tasks.
