This role is open to current IRC employees only.

The Youth Program Coordinator oversees educational programming for newcomer youth, including planning, implementation, and reporting for the IRC’s after school and weekend programming as well as school break mini-academies. This includes partnership development with New York City public schools and community-based organizations to recruit eligible students and deliver programming in the community. The Youth Program Coordinator also serves as the Dean of Instruction at the IRC’s Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, taking responsibility over curriculum, assessment and people management for instructional and other classroom staff.

The Youth Program Coordinator collaborates closely with the rest of the Youth team to ensure all programs integrate best practices for teaching and tutoring English Language Learners and students with interrupted education, as well as social-emotional learning principles, and to ensure that IRC NY’s Youth Education goals and objectives are accomplished using a holistic, collaborative approach, in partnership with school staff, caregivers, and newcomer youth themselves.

Major Responsibilities

  • Oversee After School, Saturday and Mini Academy programs
  • Develop logical framework and program design in alignment with IRC Outcomes and Evidence Framework for all programming
  • Oversee recruitment of volunteers and interns to support programs
  • Manage 1-2 Youth Program Specialists and/or Youth Program Assistants responsible for program implementation
  • Ensure all programming follows all IRC policies and procedures, particularly concerning child safeguarding
  • Design and implement opportunities for parent/caregiver engagement
  • Manage participant recruitment, retention, attendance, and family engagement
  • Oversee monitoring and evaluation for all programs
  • Manage program files and databases (enrollment, attendance, outcomes monitoring); maintain accurate and complete records according to IRC and funder policies
  • Effectively implement all programs in accordance with the IRC Multi-Tiered Systems of Support
  • Serve as a school leader for the Newcomer Youth Summer Academy, responsible for planning, staff and volunteer recruitment, hiring, and training
  • Supervise program Academic Lead Teachers, Classroom Culture Lead Teachers, SEL Teacher and Physical Education Teacher
  • Oversee teachers to coordinate, plan and develop a 6 week culturally responsive and age-appropriate curriculum, lesson plans and assessment tools using student centered teaching methodologies for English Language Learners
  • Design progress report and report card templates and coordinate related systems of data collection and dissemination
  • Plan and coordinate caregiver and teacher conferences
  • Conduct teacher observations and coaching using the IRC Framework for Effective Teaching
  • Co-lead and plan weekly community events and student award ceremonies in collaboration with other Deans
  • Deliver workshops on supporting refugee and immigrant students to NYC schools and other community-based organizations
  • Prepare internal and external reports for programs supervised
  • Ensure program data is consistently collected and entered in relevant databases
  • Other related duties as assigned

Job Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in education, social work or psychology; Master’s degree in education or related field highly desirable
  • A minimum of 3-5 years’ professional experience working with children and youth, specifically in the context of educational and social programs, required. Teaching certification and experience in the NYC public school system desirable.
  • Responsive Classrooms and/or Restorative Justice trained, highly desirable
  • Experience working with refugee and/or immigrant populations, highly desirable
  • Proven success planning and delivering creative and engaging curricula for beginner to intermediate ELLs
  • Cultural competency training experience, desirable
  • Demonstrated ability to promote an organizational culture that reflects IRC’s core values of service, accountability, integrity, and equality. Ability to lead in a way that recognizes that IRC’s work is best accomplished through the true collaboration of individuals from many cultures with a great variety of skills and perspectives
  • Excellent written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Fluent in MS Office applications, especially MS Excel
  • Organized, responsible, and flexible: able to maintain responsibility for multiple tasks in the context of a diverse, fast-paced work environment and maintain composure under pressure
  • Fluency in English required; fluency in a second language highly desired (such as: Spanish, Ukrainian, Russian, Haitian Creole, Dari, Pashto, Arabic, French)

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment
  • Expected to be at the program location Monday-Friday during mini-NYSA and NYSA
  • During school year, the coordinator works Tuesday - Saturday

Compensation: Posted pay ranges apply to US-based candidates. Ranges are based on various factors including the labor market, job type, internal equity, and budget. Exact offers are calibrated by work location, individual candidate experience and skills relative to the defined job requirements.
