Job summary

The Youth Peer Specialist (YPSS) will act as a support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances (SED) who are receiving services in the behavioral health system. The YPSS will be a key member of the treatment team, working with youth one-on-one or in groups to support goal achievement and recovery.

The role emphasizes empowerment, development of recovery skills, and collaboration with others involved in the youth’s care.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED; actively pursue DCH certification as a Peer Support Specialist as soon as possible and no later than one year after beginning employment.
• DCH Group Home Certification required within the first three months of employment.
• Young adult, ages 18 through 28, who received mental health services as a youth.
• Experience receiving services as a youth in complex, child-serving systems preferred.

Responsibilities

• Act as a support and resource for youth with serious emotional disturbances within the behavioral health system.
• Work with youth one-on-one or in groups to support goal achievement through activities and interventions.
• Assist youth in developing skills to improve functioning and quality of life; collaborate with the treatment team.
