Youth Minister and Confirmation Coordinator (PT), Christ the King Parish, Reading, MA
Christ the King Parish, located in Reading, Massachusetts, is currently seeking a part-time Youth Minister and Confirmation Coordinator (YMCC). Convenient to both Route 128 and Interstate 93, just 13 miles northwest of Boston, Christ the King was formed from the 2023 Merger of St. Agnes Church at 186 Woburn St. and St Athanasius Church at 300 Haverhill St. The Churches are a 10-minute drive apart on the Northeast and Southwest side of Reading. Activities for this role could take place at either location. The office is at 184 Woburn St, behind St Agnes Church. This is an in-person position at the parish office in Reading.
Overview of Position
The Youth Minister and Confirmation Coordinator reports directly to the Pastor and works collaboratively with the Staff and Volunteers of the Parish to build a community where youth formation lays the groundwork for lifelong discipleship. The YMCC works closely with 1-6 Director of Faith Formation to plan the transition of 6 th grade students into the Parish Confirmation Program, Youth Service Programs, and Youth Ministry Programs. The Pastor will help the YMCC develop the right mix of outside resources, catechetical and event programming, and parent advisors to form a program that guides middle- schoolers into the sacramental life of the Parish, deeper personal formation, and long-term Catholic discipleship.
General Responsibilities
- The YMCC is responsible for the comprehensive development, coordination, and oversight of Middle-High School Faith Formation and Youth Ministry in the Parish, including:
- Middle and High School Youth Ministry Programs
- Confirmation Preparation Program
- Youth Ministry Events and Summer Youth Service Program(s)
- Management and Coordination of: Parental Youth Ministry Team Members, Confirmation Catechists, and Teen Volunteers Serving in the Parish
- Collaborative Maintenance of Youth-oriented social media with the Parish Social Media Manager
- Relational Ministry with Youth
- Organization & Attendance of Teen Conferences, Service & Social Trips
- Support of Sacramental Record Keeping
Specific Responsibilities
- Develop and implement a comprehensive youth program that includes regular meetings, ongoing formation, retreats, service projects, and social activities.
- Coordinate with parish staff and volunteers to ensure that youth programming is integrated with other parish ministries and initiatives.
- Build relationships with young people, parents, and volunteers to foster a community of faith that supports each other in their spiritual growth.
- Collaborate with the Pastor and Parochial Vicar in selecting and implementing a meaningful Confirmation preparation program in line with the Parish’s youth evangelization goals.
- Foster a culture of evangelization, encouraging young people to share their faith with others and inviting them to participate in the mission of the Church.
- Create a safe and welcoming environment for youth, following all diocesan guidelines and protocols for safeguarding young people.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
- A faithful Catholic conformed to the teachings of the Church and working actively on their personal relationship with Jesus Christ.
- A genuine desire to help young people grow closer to Jesus Christ.
- A Bachelor's degree and/or Master’s degree, preferably in theology, religious studies, or a related field. (Will consider those with appropriate experience.)
- Experience working with youth in ministry within a Catholic context.
- Knowledge of Catholic teaching, sacramental theology, and the catechetical process.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to relate well with young people and parents.
- Ability to work collaboratively with parish staff and volunteers to achieve shared goals.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Proficient in the use of technology for communication and programming.
- A love for Jesus Christ and His Church and the ability to express that love and relationship through discussion with others.
- VIRTUS/Protecting God’s Children certified or willing to receive training.
- Able to clear annual CORI screenings.
- Ability to lift/carry up to 25 pounds
- Driver’s license and reliable transportation

* The role is anticipated for 10-15 hours per week. A benefits-eligible schedule of 19 or more hours per week will be considered at the discretion of the Pastor for candidates who are able to assist the Parish in multiple areas.
