Job summary

BCFS Health & Human Services in Tyler, Texas seeks a Youth Empowerment Specialist to recruit, retain and facilitate youth for the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC) and to teach leadership and life-skills curricula to YAC and partners.

Requirements include an Associate’s degree and 2 years of youth work experience; a Bachelor’s degree in social work, psychology, education, or human services is preferred. The role may require evenings and weekends to meet program needs.

Qualifications

  • Requires 2 years of experience working with youth ages 6-17.
  • Associate’s degree required; Bachelor’s preferred in social work, psychology, education or any human services field.

Responsibilities

  • Recruit and retain youth to serve on the Youth Advisory Committee (YAC).
  • Coordinate YAC meetings and develop meeting agendas.
  • Ensure YAC feedback is integrated into program design and quality improvement.
  • Serve as YAC coordinator contact and attend CYD Youth Summit planning with youth.
  • Facilitate leadership curriculum for YAC and Youth Leadership Development participants.
  • Complete intake assessments and pre-/post-tests required by the program.
  • Coach and support YAC and YLD social justice projects.
  • Train in and facilitate other program curricula including violence prevention and life skills development.
