Job description

Applewood Centers is a private, nonprofit agency providing mental health services, social services and education to children, adolescents and families living in Cuyahoga and Lorain counties. Dedicated to addressing a variety of behavioral, emotional and learning problems, we provide a continuum of care from outpatient counseling to residential treatment.

Position Summary: It has been estimated that nearly 70% of children currently involved in the Juvenile Justice System experience psychological issues or distress. We have been working within this setting since January of 2016 and in 2020, 76% of the youth seen by Applewood mental health providers had improved behavioral and emotional symptomology during their stay within the facility. We are passionate about this work and are currently seeking qualified mental health professionals to help us continue to address this issue within the Cuyahoga County Juvenile Detention Center.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Identify, assess, and start the treatment process with young men and women who are being held at the Detention Center.
  • Clinically assess and diagnose individuals referred for services as well as conducting brief counseling interventions with clients.
  • Develop and make recommendations for continued services and treatment for clients identified once they are released.
  • Assess clients who are experiencing acute mental health emergencies and work closely with DH staff and the psychiatrist and/or medical provider to ensure the youth are provided appropriate care and interventions.

Qualifications:

  • Valid Ohio Social Work or Counseling License.
  • A minimum of 2 years prior experience in the delivery of mental health services to children with complex needs is essential.
  • Proven experience with clinical evaluation/assessment and crisis intervention.

Why Work for Us: We value our employees and their commitment to our mission and offer competitive total rewards (benefits and compensation) options to our valued employees and their families, including domestic partners. Our rich options include:

  • There are no productivity expectations or Medicaid billing in this role.
  • Schedules are flexible to meet the needs of the facility.
  • Dental, vision and medical insurance.
  • 403(b) plan with match.
  • Life insurance.
  • Paid long-term disability.
  • Generous paid time off and holidays.
