Job summary

South Carolina Department of Juvenile Justice seeks an Intake Officer at the Midlands Evaluation and Development Center. You will oversee secure intake, documentation, and coordination with courts and law enforcement to support appropriate placement and supervision.

Training covers de-escalation, crisis intervention, and defensive tactics. New officers receive comprehensive onboarding and ongoing support to ensure facility safety, youth rights, and accurate intake records.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent; must be at least 21 years old and have a valid driver’s license.
• Ability to learn state laws, rules, and youth control procedures.
• Ability to supervise and manage youth in various activities.
• Strong interpersonal skills and professional communication.
• Ability to follow a daily schedule and document events accurately.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate admission, transfer, and release of youth in the facility.
• Verify legal documents and complete intake processing per policies.
• Maintain centralized records of youth movement, head counts, housing, and access controls.
• Coordinate facility movement to ensure safety and accountability.
• Respond to emergencies, monitor security systems, and communicate with staff.
