Job summary

Grand Street Settlement is seeking a Group Leader to support Youth Services at the Tompkins Community Center in Brooklyn. The role focuses on promoting growth, leadership, and positive self-image in youth through supervision and curriculum activities such as homework help, STEM, health and wellness, performing arts, and literacy.

Requirements include a high school diploma and at least 1 year of youth development experience; CPR/First Aid is preferred.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma required; some college or college degree preferred.
• At least 1 year of youth development-related experience, including lesson plan development, facilitation of classroom activities, and classroom management.
• Valid CPR/AED and First Aid certification through a recognized accrediting body preferred

Responsibilities

• Create a culture of positive group cohesiveness and problem-solve directly with youth in groups.
• Provide supervision of a group of children and participate in activities and trips; maintain a safe and professional working environment.
• Design and implement project-based curriculum and facilitate activities based on the given themes.
• Work collaboratively with co-workers, cultivate a culture of professionalism, and serve as a role model for youth participants.
• Come ready to work with a positive attitude and support and encourage youth.
• Attend professional development and training as assigned by supervisors.
• Know and follow daily schedules, protocols, procedures, safety drills, and safety plans.
• Maintain adequate first aid and safety kit supplies daily.
• Coordinate community relations efforts and participate in outreach activities.
• Assist in planning, organizing, and executing community events.
• Maintain accurate records of youth participation, progress, and other relevant information.
• Supervise and evaluate youth workers, SYEP, WLG, AmeriCorps, and interns.
• Other assignments as required by the program director.
