  • Present during scheduled program hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Help plan and execute daily activities in a safe, age-appropriate environment.
  • Enforce program rules and guidelines.
  • Serve as liaison between participants and Recreation Division.
  • Respond to public inquiries by phone, email, text, and other means.
  • Maintain inventory and safety of supplies, facilities, equipment, tools, food, and vehicles.
  • Maintain personal trainings and certifications as required by the state.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings at various levels.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Program Coordinator or Director in their absence.

Job Description

The City of Steamboat Springs is hiring Youth Group Leaders to join their team. Pay Range: $21.97-$26.70. The role is a general staff member for school year and summer licensed day care programs.

Supervisor Relationships

Works under the general supervision of the Recreation Coordinators. No supervision exercised.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Perform duties in cooperation with Youth Program Coordinators and Supervisor.
  • Work as general staff member in seasonal programs: Afterschool Action Program, ASSET Clubs, School Days Off, Kid’s Night Out, Summer Camps, Theme Camps, and Community Events.
  • Present during scheduled program hours, including nights and weekends.
  • Help plan and execute daily activities in a safe, age‑appropriate environment.
  • Enforce program rules and guidelines.
  • Serve as liaison between program participants and the Recreation Division.
  • Respond to public inquiries by phone, email, text, and other means as required.
  • Maintain inventory and physical quality, cleanliness, and safety of program supplies, facilities, equipment, tools, food, and vehicles.
  • Maintain personal trainings and certifications as required by the state.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings at divisional, departmental, and organizational levels.
  • Assume responsibilities of the Program Coordinator or Director in their absence.
Desired Minimum Qualifications
  • Over the age of 18 recommended; over the age of 16 required.
  • 480 hours verified experience with children.
  • Passion for working with children.
  • Knowledge of recreation philosophy, planning, and administration.
  • Knowledge of equipment, facilities, operations, and techniques used in comprehensive community recreation programs.
  • Physical ability to lead and participate in camp activities, including running, swimming, hiking, lifting, team building initiatives, physical games, and creative programs.
  • Skill in operation of listed tools and equipment.
  • Ability to work in a variety of climates, indoor and outdoor.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, other agencies, participants, instructors, community leaders, and the general public.
  • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing.
  • General knowledge of State of Colorado licensing rules and regulation, and Colorado Department of Health and Environment rules and regulation.
Special Requirements
  • Valid state driver's license if applicable.
  • First Aid and CPR certification or ability to obtain.
  • Must pass criminal CBI, FBI, Motor Vehicle, and Dept. of Human Services background check.
  • Ability to obtain all certifications as required by the State of Colorado Dept. of Early Learning.

  • Personal computer, including word processing and database software.
  • Calculator, copy machine, phone, mobile or portable radio.
  • Automobile; pick‑up truck; 15‑passenger van (as applicable).
Physical Demands
  • Walk, sit, talk or hear frequently.
  • Use hands to handle, feel or operate objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms.
  • Climb or balance, twist, lift, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl occasionally.
  • Maybe snowboard beginner to advanced terrain with the Snowboard Outreach Society Program.
  • May lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
  • Vision: close vision, color vision, ability to adjust focus.
Work Environment

The work environment includes outside weather conditions: wet and/or humid, snow, rain, and/or strong sun. Noise level usually quiet in the office, moderately loud on site.
