Job summary

4th Second in Vallejo, CA, is seeking a Growing Futures Coordinator to develop a community garden, support youth programming, and promote outdoor exploration. The role requires gardening skills and strong communication to collaborate with fellow gardeners and community members.

Previous experience is preferred but not required; a passion for outdoor work, creativity, and a drive to build community are essential. 25 hours per week, in-office & community settings in Vallejo.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a team.
  • Creativity in developing and implementing activities.
  • Patience and understanding when working with youth.
  • Access to reliable transportation with DMV insurance eligibility.
  • Must pass Live Scan and other background checks.

Responsibilities

  • Planting and cultivating plants, flowers, and vegetables using permaculture practices.
  • Managing compost and waste materials responsibly.
  • Collaborating with gardeners to plan seasonal planting schedules.
  • Adding fertilizers, compost, and amendments to soil.
  • Engaging with community members and encouraging volunteer participation.
  • Organizing workshops or events to educate the community on gardening.
  • Maintaining records of planting dates, crop yields, and harvests.
  • Data entry for attendance and program reporting.
  • Safely transport youth participants to and from activities as needed.
  • Complete scheduled pickups of food boxes, tools, and materials.
