Job summary

Valley of the Sun YMCA is seeking part-time sports officials to officiate flag football games in our league, enforcing YMCA rules and ensuring player safety and fair play. You will manage game flow, communicate penalties, and interact with players, coaches and staff with professionalism.

The role requires CPR and first aid certification, at least six months refereeing experience, and knowledge of YMCA guidelines. Join a mission-driven team and contribute to youth development within our community.

Qualifications

• Current CPR certification.
• 21 years of age or older.
• Current state approved first aid certification.
• Six months minimum experience in refereeing.
• Up-to-date knowledge of YMCA guidelines designated for the league.

Responsibilities

• Enforce YMCA flag football rules consistently, fairly and confidentially.
• Control the pace and flow of the game while keeping games on schedule.
• Prioritize athlete safety and address unsafe play or conditions immediately.
• Promote respect, teamwork, positive behavior and good sportsmanship.
• Identify and communicate penalties, violations, scoring, possession and other game situations.
• Communicate clearly and professionally with players, coaches, parents and YMCA staff.
• Create a positive, encouraging and age-appropriate environment for young athletes.
• Handle disagreements calmly and professionally and involve YMCA staff when necesssary.
• Arrive on time, prepared, properly dressed and familiar with assigned league rules.
• Report injuries, behavioral concerns, ejections or other significant incidents to YMCA staff.
• Represent the YMCA positively and follow all YMCA policies, procedures and Code of Conduct expectations.
• Work collaboratively with fellow officials, coaches and Sports Department staff to ensure a successful game experience.
