Job summary

Police Athletic League, Inc. is seeking a Part-Time Youthlink Activity Specialist to design and facilitate engaging enrichment experiences for high school participants at our New South Bronx Center in the Bronx, NY.

You will lead activities across performing arts, visual arts, music, dance, writing, photography, crafts, gaming, and more to inspire creativity, confidence, and collaboration. The role reports to the Teen Supervisor and supports the Youthlink Director, with orientation and ongoing

Qualifications

• High school diploma or equivalent required; Associate or Bachelor's degree in Fine Arts, Performing Arts, Education, Youth Development, Recreation, Human Services, or related field preferred.
• Minimum of two years of experience working with high school-aged youth in after-school, educational, community-based, recreation, arts, or enrichment programs.
• Demonstrated experience or proficiency in one or more enrichment areas including visual arts, theater, music, dance, photography, creative writing, digital arts, crafts, gaming, or other recreational or creative disciplines.
• Excellent classroom management, behavior management, and facilitation skills.
• Must show experience and competency in the material they would like to teach; sample lesson may be part of interview.
• Bi-lingual in Spanish, French, or Chinese preferred.
• Open to learning and growing; training in mental health, SEL, and inclusion will be provided.

Responsibilities

• Foster social and emotional competencies and well-being in a safe, welcoming environment.
• Teach participants fundamentals of enrichment activities to build skills and confidence.
• Coordinate and present a culminating performance at the end of the program cycle.
• Be aware of students with IEPs and medical conditions and follow support plans.
• Provide referrals for mental health services as needed in time-sensitive situations.
• Work cooperatively with Group Leaders, staff, teachers, and other program and school staff.
• Build positive relationships with youth and caretakers; be a role model in demeanor and communication.
• Attend meetings with staff, caretakers, volunteers, and community residents as needed.
