SUMMARY

The YouthEnrichmentInstructor develops and delivers engaging, developmentally appropriate classes and camps for preschool, elementary, and/or secondary students as part of Hopkins Community Education programming. Program offerings may include, but are not limited to art, theater, games, crafting, sports, and cooking. All class ideas are welcome and encouraged.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

This class specification lists the major duties and requirements of the job and is not all-inclusive. Incumbent(s) may be expected to perform job-related duties other than those contained in this document and may be required to have specific job-related knowledge and skills.

  • Develop and implement culturally responsive, developmentally appropriate classes and activities for Preschool - 12th grade students, aligned with the individual's expertise and skill set in Art, STEM, or Sports.
  • Provide direct supervision and leadership to students in classes, camps, and enrichment programs offered after school, evenings, weekends and on non-school days.
  • Purchase, prepare, and organize materials within Hopkins Schools purchasing guidelines.
  • Provide direction to YouthEnrichment Assistants and Leaders, where applicable, to ensure safe and high-quality program delivery.
  • Manage student check-in and check-out; ensure all students are accounted for and supervised until dismissal.
  • Maintain a positive, orderly, and safe environment using proactive supervision and positive behavior support strategies.
  • Complete attendance records, schedules, accident reports, and other documentation as required.
  • Interact with students, families, and community members in a professional, courteous, and helpful manner.
  • Model and teach positive social skills through planned curriculum, role modeling, and positive reinforcement.
  • Maintain safe, clean, and organized program spaces; set up and clean up materials and equipment as needed.
  • Report concerns, incidents, or facility issues to the Supervisor of Enrichment promptly.
  • Enforce all Hopkins Community Education policies, rules, and expectations.
  • Promote the mission and values of Hopkins Public Schools through professional, inclusive, and cooperative behavior.
QUALIFICATIONS

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience
  • High School Diploma or GED Equivalent
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with children or youth in a school, camp, or recreational setting.
  • Subject matter expertise or experience relevant to proposed class topics preferred (required for Instructor -level assignment).
Required Knowledge and Skills
  • Principles of youth development and culturally responsive programming.
  • Effective classroom and group management techniques.
  • Safety practices and emergency response procedures.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to build positive, supportive relationships with students and families.
  • Commitment to equity, inclusion, and fostering a welcoming environment for all participants.
  • Basic computer skills for completing attendance, reports, and communications.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL REQUIREMENTS
  • Ability to work in classroom, recreational, or outdoor settings.
  • Stamina to actively supervise and engage with students for extended periods.
  • Strength to lift and carry up to 20 pounds.
  • Visual and auditory ability to observe student behavior and ensure safety.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in person and over the phone.
WORKING ENVIRONMENT
  • Work is performed primarily in school or community center environments.
  • Travel may be required to locations throughout the Hopkins School District.
  • Work hours vary based on program schedules and class offerings.

Assignment as a YouthEnrichmentInstructor or Leader is determined by demonstrated ability to independently plan, deliver, and manage classes, as well as subject matter expertise. Professional development opportunities are provided to support staff growth and program quality.
