Job summary

YMCA of Hagerstown is seeking an experienced caregiver/educator to support classroom operations and implement program curriculum that fosters achievement and belonging among youth and families.

The role emphasizes positive relationships, staff collaboration, and strong communication with parents while adhering to safety policies and YMCA competencies. Day shifts support our youth development and healthy living initiatives within the community.

Qualifications

• Meets educational and experience qualifications established by state law.
• At least 18 years of age.
• CPR, First Aid, AED certifications and Child Abuse prevention training within 30 days of hire.
• Previous experience with children in developmental settings preferred.
• Ability to plan and implement age-appropriate/developmentally appropriate activities.
• Ability to work with diverse populations and communicate effectively.
• Understands ADA compliance and YMCA mission and goals.

Responsibilities

• Implements curriculum within established guidelines.
• Nurtures children through purposeful programming to build achievement and belonging.
• Supervises children, classroom, and activities, following procedures and standards.
• Performs ongoing observations and evaluations of each child.
• Maintains effective communication with parents and engages them as volunteers.
• Keeps program site and equipment maintained and safe.
• Keeps required program records and attends staff meetings and trainings.
• Act as a positive role model, exemplifying YMCA core values (Caring, Honesty, Responsibility, Respect).
• Builds relationships with members, staff, and volunteers using friendly, clear communication.
