Job summary

Abraxas Youth and Family Services seeks a Youth Development Specialist to mentor and supervise adolescents in a structured residential setting at the South Mountain campus in Pennsylvania. This full-time role includes classroom and activity supervision, documentation, and safety oversight.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required.
• Detention unit employees must have an Associate's degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.
• Must have a valid Driver's License and be at least 21 years old.
• Complete background checks and pre-employment screenings as required by policy.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and teach adolescents in a structured residential setting.
• Regularly monitor and interact with clients, observe behavior, and document services.
• Provide safety and security during daily activities and transitions.
• Deliver comprehensive paid training to prepare new employees for success in a team environment.
• Observe client behavior and intervene as needed; know emergency procedures (CPR/first aid).
• Support orientation of new clients and document educational data points.

What You’ll Do

As a Youth Development Specialist, you will be a role model, teach and supervise Adolescents in a structured residential environment. In this role, you will regularly supervise and interact with clients, observe and address client behavior, and document services in client files. Comprehensive paid training provided to prepare new employees for success in our team-oriented environment.

Your responsibilities may include:

• Interact with and supervise clients during daily activities in a manner that ensures their safety and security
• Provide effective people security (ex: class attendance, class headcounts, classroom transitions)
• Observe client behavior and intervenes appropriately.
• Support orientation of new clients into the learning center environment
• Document various educational data points
• Know and implement emergency procedures (e.g. evacuation, CPR/first aid)
• Support the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care
• Demonstrate appropriate use of Safe Crisis Management techniques and skill

Qualifications

Education and Experience Required

• High School Diploma or GED
• Detention unit employees must have an Associate's degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.

Other Qualifications

• At least twenty-one (21) years of age
• Must have a valid Driver's License
• Physical exam that includes TB and drug testing.
• Must pass both federal and state background checks which screen for crimes including, but not limited to drug related crimes, violent crimes, sexual abuse, domestic violence, child abuse, and repeated misdemeanors.
• Satisfactory completion of background screening and applicable pre-employment checks, including but not limited to employment and/or personal reference and driving records.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.

Schedule

• Full-Time
• Monday-Friday, year-round
• 8-hour shifts
