Job summary

Boys and Girls Clubs of the Austin Area in Round Rock, TX is seeking a Youth Development Professional (YDP). You will mentor youth, lead enrichment activities, and model a positive, professional role while supporting their social and academic development.

You will supervise youth across settings, assist with homework, and coordinate with staff and families. The part-time role offers training, a supportive team, and meaningful opportunities to help local youth thrive.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Pass background check, reference check, and drug test.
  • Ability to work and interact professionally.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare materials for programming.
  • Lead activities designed to foster students’ mental, physical, and social development.
  • Work with youth individually or in groups to facilitate programming.
  • Encourage and support development of social skills, self-esteem, and character building.
  • Assist with homework during daily “Power Hour.”
  • Provide feedback to youth using positive reinforcement techniques.
  • Enforce organization rules and policies.
  • Maintain a professional and role-model persona.
  • Check in/out youth and maintain attendance records.
  • Supervise youth in classrooms, cafeteria, playgrounds, and during field trips.
  • Maintain Club area and cleanliness.
  • Prepare and serve preplanned meals and snacks per guidelines.
  • Attend staff meetings and trainings.
  • Maintain daily contact with staff/parents and external groups.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Prepares, facilitates, and evaluates programming activities for youth to ensure enrichment programming is successful. Ensures a safe environment for all at all times.

  • Prepares materials for programming
  • Leads activities designed to foster students’ mental, physical, and social development
  • Works with youth individually or in groups to facilitate programming
  • Encourage and support the development of social skills, self-esteem, and character building.
  • Assist with homework during daily “Power Hour”
  • Provides feedback to Club youth using positive reinforcement techniques to encourage, motivate, or build confidence in students
  • Enforce organization rules and policies.
  • Maintains a professional and role-model persona
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Checks in and/or out youth attending Club adhering to procedures
  • Takes daily class attendance and maintain accurate records
  • Supervises youth in various settings including classrooms, cafeteria, playground, multipurpose rooms, and field trips
  • Responsible for cleaning and maintaining the Club area
  • Prepare and serve preplanned meals and snacks according to guidelines.
  • Attends staff meetings and training sessions as prescribed
  • Perform other duties as assigned
  • Maintain close daily contact with Club staff and Club members to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/instruction
  • Maintain contact with external community groups, school administration, members’ parents and others

HOURS:

School time: Part time hours (Average 20 hours a week) during the school year: Schedule options from 2:00pm to 6:00pm or 3:00pm to 7:00pm; Mon-Fri.

AT THIS TIME, WE ARE ONLY CONSIDERING APPLICANTS AVAILABLE FOR ENTIRE SHIFTS & DAYS.

Out of school time (i.e. summer, winter, and/or spring break) may vary, but will remain a part-time position. Out of school time hours may range from 7:00am – 8:00pm.

Occasional nights or weekends may be required for training, field trips, or other Club-related activities.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Must pass background check, reference check, and drug test
  • Must be able to work and interact professionally
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Associate degree in education or related field preferred
  • At least one year of relevant experience in an educational or childcare setting with a preferred age of 5 - 18 years of age
  • If 21 years or older, hold a valid state Driver’s License and be willing to drive shuttle bus
  • Spanish speaking preferred
  • Exemplary written and spoken communication skills
  • Demonstrates dependability, accountability, and cooperation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS / WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Preferred ability to stand for long periods of time
  • Preferred ability to work in various weather conditions—hot, cold, rainy, etc
  • Preferred ability to meet physical demands of working with youth
  • Preferred ability to move equipment up to 25 pounds
  • Preferred ability to endure periodically noisy environments (in the context of working with youth)
  • Preferred ability to have adequate vision and hearing to ensure the safety of Club youth

Requirements

  • Previous experience working with children or youth in a professional setting (e.g. Christian counseling, babysitting, early childhood education, sports coaching, tutoring, daycare).
  • Patience, empathy, and a genuine interest in the well‑being of children
