Job summary

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater Oxnard and Port Hueneme is seeking a part-time Youth Programs staff member. The role focuses on preparing youth for success, developing engaging activities, and ensuring safe, quality programming centered on BGCA philosophies.

You will register members, lead daily/weekly youth activities, and coordinate with schools, police, and community partners. CPR/First Aid is required or obtainable through the club.

Qualifications

  • High school diploma / GED minimum
  • Experience in working with children
  • Knowledge of youth development
  • Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems
  • Ability to deal with the general public
  • Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth
  • Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment
  • Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (can obtain through Club)
  • Valid State Drivers License (recommended)

Responsibilities

  • Prepare youth for success and promote program participation.
  • Register new members and orient them; provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Ensure that programs are organized, conducted professionally, and reflect BGCA philosophies.
  • Provide support to youth and families at all times.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement daily and weekly activities for youth.
  • Monitor safety, quality of programs, and branch appearance; prepare activity reports.
  • Coordinate BGCA national programs (Youth of the Month, Youth of the Year, SMART Moves, etc.).
  • Establish communication with members, parents, teachers, school staff, police, and community leaders.
  • May participate in special programs/events; may drive Club van; other duties as assigned.

Job description

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plans, implements, supervises, and evaluates activities provided in within a specific program area (such as education, social recreation, arts & crafts, and physical education).

KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
1.Prepare Youth for Success
  • Create an environment that facilitates the achievement of Youth Development Outcomes
  • Promote and stimulate program participation
  • Register new members and participate in their club orientation process; provide guidance and role modeling to members.
  • Ensure that all programs and activities are organized and conducted in a professionalmanner and are reflective of Boys & Girls Club philosophies
  • Provide support to youth and families at all times.
2.Program Development and Implementation
  • Effectively implement and administer programs, services, and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
  • Monitor and evaluate programs, services, and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs, and appearance of the branch at all times. Prepare periodic activity reports.
  • Plan, coordinate, and implement daily and weekly activities for youth. Be prepared with weekly schedule and each rotation planned in advance using a variety of activities that utilize and teach diverse learning skills.
  • Aid in the continual development and implementation of new, fun, and educational activities for youth.
  • Aid in the development, planning, and implementation of on-going quarterly activities, special events, parent night, etc.
  • Aid with the coordination and facilitation of BGCA National programs (Youth of the Month, Youth of the Year, S.M.A.R.T. Moves, incentive programs, etc.)
  • Establish communication links between members, parents, teachers, school staff, police, community leaders, and supervisors.
3.Supervision
  • Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings.
  • Assist with the implementation and enforcement of safety policies/procedures regarding participant safety, risk management, and building security.
  • Assist with the up-keep of Club maintenance and appearance.
  • Handle minor youth conflict as it occurs in programs.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • May participate in special programs and/or events.
  • May be required to drive Club van.
  • Other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
  • Ability to supervise large groups of children and coordination of their activities. A majority of time will be spent standing. Moderate lifting will be required from time to time.
Schedule: Monday thru Friday, 12:00pm to 6:00pm
