Job summary

Boys & Girls Clubs of Oxnard (BGCOP) is seeking a dedicated Youth Programs staff member to help plan and implement daily activities for youth, cover staff supervision, and support families. You will coordinate weekly schedules and ensure programs align with BGCA philosophies.

The role requires at least a high school diploma, a year of service with BGCOP or similar program, and CPR/First Aid certification. A valid CA driver’s license is preferred.

Qualifications

• Minimum High school diploma / GED.
• Minimum 1 year of service with BGCOP, or similar role/program.
• Experience in working with children.
• Knowledge of youth development.
• Ability to motivate youth and manage behavior problems.
• Ability to deal with the general public.
• Ability to plan and implement quality programs for youth.
• Ability to organize and supervise members in a safe environment.
• Mandatory CPR and First Aid Certifications (can obtain through Club).
• Valid State Driver’s License (recommended).

• Register new members and participate in their club orientation process; provide guidance and role modeling to members.
• Ensure that all programs and activities are organized and conducted in a professional manner and are reflective of Boys & Girls Club philosophies.
• Provide support to youth and families at all times.
• Effectively implement and administer programs, services and activities for drop-in members and visitors.
• Monitor and evaluate programs, services and activities to ensure safety of members, quality in programs and appearance of the branch at all times.
• Plan, coordinate, and implement daily, weekly and monthly activities for youth.
• Be prepared with weekly schedule and each rotation planned in advance using a variety of activities that utilize and teach diverse learning skills.
• Aid in the continual development and implementation of new, fun, and educational activities for youth.
• Aid in the development, planning, and implementation of on-going quarterly activities, special events, parent night, etc.
• Aid with the coordination and facilitation of BGCA National programs (Youth of the Month, Youth of the Year, S.M.A.R.T. Moves, incentive programs, etc.)
• Establish communication links between members, parents, teachers, school staff, law enforcement, community leaders, and supervisors.
• Ensure a productive work environment by participating in weekly branch staff meetings.
• Assist with the implementation and enforcement of safety policies/procedures regarding participant safety, risk management, and building security.
• Assist with the up-keep, maintenance, and appearance of areas utilized by the Club.
• Handle minor youth conflict as it occurs in programs.

PRIMARY FUNCTION:

Plans, implements, supervises and evaluates activities provided within a specific program area, such as education, social recreation, arts & crafts, and physical education. Assists Site Coordinator, as directed, with daily, weekly, and monthly functioning of the site.

ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:

• May participate in special programs and/or events.
• May be required to drive Club van.
• Other duties as assigned.

RELATIONSHIPS:

Internal: Maintains close, daily contact with Club staff (professional and volunteer), Club members, and supervisor to receive/provide information, discuss issues, explain guidelines/ instructions; instruct; and advise/counsel.

External: Maintains contact with external community groups, schools, members' parents and others to assist in resolving problems.

SCHEDULE:

• Monday thru Friday, 12:00pm – 8:00pm (listed time does not accurately reflect the scheduled day/hours, but availability required for this position).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:

Ability to supervise large groups of children and coordination of their activities. A majority of time will be spent standing. Moderate lifting will be required from time to time.

• $20-$22/hr (Depending on multiple factors, such as relevant education and/or experience)
