Job summary

The Commonwealth of Pennsylvania is hiring a Youth Development Counselor for the Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services at the South Mountain Secure Treatment Unit in Franklin County. The role provides counseling, supervision, and guidance to residents in a secure, rehabilitative setting to build pro-social behaviors and life skills.

You will work a full-time, 40-hour week with day/evening shifts in a 24/7 operation.

Qualifications

• Four years of experience as a Juvenile Justice Specialist or three years as a Juvenile Justice Specialist Supervisor, as per the Office of Administration.
• One year of experience in care, custody, supervision or guidance of adjudicated or socially maladjusted youths, plus a bachelor's degree.
• Equivalent combination of experience and training including one year in care and supervision of youths.

Responsibilities

• Supervise residents to maintain safety and prevent harmful behaviors.
• Maintain safety and prevent absconding to protect the community.
• Provide individual, family and group counseling to support resident growth.
• Develop and update individualized treatment plans based on assessed needs.
• Follow bureau policies and comply with state and federal regulations.

Education

Bachelor's degree in behavioral sciences / related field

Experience in care/supervision of youth

Equivalent combination of experience/training
