Job summary

Salvation Army in Memphis, TN is seeking a Youth Development Coordinator to assist in planning, development, and daily operations of the Youth Development Department across Purdue Center of Hope programs. The role requires overseeing camps in season and managing scheduling for staff while ensuring safety and adherence to Safe From Harm policies.

Under the Youth Development Director, you will monitor childcare coordinators and tutors, ensure youth safety, and provide leadership during shifts.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Associate’s Degree in Education or related field.
  • Minimum 2 years’ experience working with child development programs in a church or preschool or experience working with youth programs.
  • Any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
  • Valid State Driver License.
  • CPR and First Aid Certification.
  • Safe From Harm Certification as directed by supervisor

Responsibilities

  • Develops and implement plans which are age-group program specific; Monitors youth academic progress monitor IEP.s Develops positive relationships with external partners that impact Purdue Center children.
  • Helps implement the plans set forth by the Youth Development Director in accordance with Salvation Army Policies and Procedures.
  • Assists in the selection, acquisition, development, training, maintenance and support of the Youth Development Department to support the Salvation Army and Purdue Center of Hope mission and vision.
  • Provides opportunities for physical and mental stimulation through both inside and outside learning activities and Therapeutic Group Activities.
  • Coordinates the transporting of children and youth within the Purdue Center of Hope and ensures the safety and protection of children and youth at all times.

Schedule/Hours: Monday through Friday 8:30 a.m. - 4:30 p.m. Non-exempt (36.25 hours per week)

This position is responsible for: assisting in the planning, development, and overseeing the day to day operations and activities in the Youth Development Department, Summer, Spring and Fall Camp as well as performs any necessary administrative duties; provides reinforcement of training and general leadership during assigned shifts, ensures Youth Development Operations are in compliance with established departmental policies and procedures. Under the direction and supervision of the Youth Development Director, the person in this position will monitor childcare coordinator and tutors as well as all individuals interacting with participants in Youth Development Department, ensure safety of children and youth, prevent accidents, and enforce all Safe From Harm regulations. The Youth Development Coordinator will also be responsible for planning out schedules for all Youth Development staff, providing exceptional services, and for the safe and secure day-to-day operations of the Purdue Center of Hope Youth Development Department.

Physical Requirements and Working Conditions
  • Ability to meet attendance requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate the English language.
  • Ability to observe children and youth and ensure their safety.
  • Ability to lift, hold, and carry toddlers on a regular basis.
  • Ability to plan work priorities, evaluate work performances and provide recommendations for improving productivity and efficiency of work.
  • Work is performed in a normal childcare environment where there are little or no physical discomforts associated with changes in weather or discomforts associated with noise, dust, dirt, and the like.
