Overview

This position supports the work of the Y, a leading nonprofit committed to strengthening community through youth development, healthy living, and social responsibility. The Youth Development Aide will provide direct supervision to children during the school year in Before & After Programs as well as during Summer Day Camp. You will create positive and nurturing relationships with children and build cooperative relationships with parents/caregivers. As an Aide, you will promote and support the potential of all youth in programs and facilitate peer-to-peer connections as part of the overall camp experience.

Responsibilities
  • Provide a safe, nurturing, yet fun environment for children.
  • Supervise, facilitate, and engage with participants during all large and small group activities and in all program areas.
  • Treat all children with dignity and respect, allowing for individual differences.
  • Create an atmosphere of acceptance and caring for each child, providing individual attention where possible.
  • Implement an age-appropriate curriculum that helps children reach their full potential in all areas of development.
  • Familiarize yourself with and adhere to the program’s policies, health and safety regulations, emergency procedures, and be prepared to implement them if necessary.
  • Maintain State licensing and YMCA standards and minimum guidelines.
  • Demonstrate proper care and storage of equipment, supplies, and program space.
  • Maintain professional, friendly relationships with staff, parents, and children.
  • Respond to all accidents and incidents within the program appropriately.
  • Supervise all program areas, including gyms and playgrounds.
  • Complete routine forms such as attendance records, observation records, incident, and injury reports.
  • Prepare snacks or meals as assigned.
  • Work outside regular hours for trainings, extended program hours, parent nights, or events if required.
  • Provide leadership, guidance, and respect to peers.
  • Model good character and hygiene habits.
  • Act as a substitute at other Youth Development Program locations when requested.
Qualifications
  • Minimum age of 16
  • Experience with children leading recreational activities preferred
  • Current CPR/AED for the Professional Rescuer, First Aid, and Oxygen Administration certification
