Job summary

Maricopa County seeks a Mitigation Specialist to work with youth within the juvenile delinquency system, collaborating with the attorney and investigators to craft mitigation and sentencing plans.

The role requires two years of paid casework in criminal justice or related social services, plus a psychology-related degree. A valid Arizona driver’s license is required; bilingual skills are valued and opportunities for growth exist.

Qualifications

• Two years of paid casework experience within a criminal justice, social service or court agency.
• Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Social Work, Behavioral or Social Science, or another related field.
• Valid Arizona driver’s license upon hire.

Responsibilities

• Interview client/family to develop mitigation and treatment/sentencing plans.
• Conduct assessments and conferences, attend case staffings; provide input regarding clients’ needs.
• Make and monitor referrals for follow-up and intervention.
• Present and/or submit reports to attorneys and the court for best sentencing outcomes.
• Testify in court and locate resources for residential treatment, group homes, and outpatient programs.
