Job summary

Grant Gardens is seeking Youth Counselors to provide direct care, mentorship, and behavioral support for adolescents 13-17 in residential treatment.

You will supervise, lead activities, reinforce treatment goals, and collaborate with therapists, nurses, and educators in a trauma-informed, structured environment. The role offers hands-on experience in behavioral health, social services, and education.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Ability to provide attentive supervision and remain calm during challenging situations.
• Strong communication, observation, teamwork, and documentation skills.
• Ability to follow treatment plans, safety procedures, supervisory direction, and confidentiality requirements.
• Basic computer skills and willingness to learn electronic documentation systems.
• Ability to obtain CPR, First Aid, AED, and TCI certifications within required agency timeframes.
• Meet background clearance, health screening, and employment requirements.
• Valid driver's license and driving record when driving is assigned.

Responsibilities

• Provide active supervision and maintain resident safety during daily routines, activities, transitions, and outings.
• Build positive, professional relationships through consistency, encouragement, and boundaries.
• Support daily living routines such as hygiene, meals, chores, school transitions, recreation, and bedtime.
• Coach residents in coping skills, emotional regulation, communication, problem-solving, and peer interactions.
• Facilitate or assist with recreational activities, groups, and skill-building opportunities.
• Implement treatment plan components, behavior support strategies, and safety plans under supervision.
• Recognize distress signs and use crisis prevention and de-escalation techniques.
• Respond to safety concerns using approved TCI techniques as trained.
• Document observations, safety checks, activities, and incidents promptly and accurately.
• Communicate resident progress and updates during shift handoffs and team discussions.
• Work with supervisors, therapists, nursing staff, and educators as a team.
• Protect resident confidentiality and maintain professional boundaries.
