Description of Work

We are looking for candidates who have a passion for helping court-involved youth.

Working Together to Strengthen North Carolina’s Youth and Families!

This is a REPOST. Previous applicants are still under consideration and do not need to reapply.

This position is for Cabarrus Youth Development Center in Concord (Cabarrus County), North Carolina.

Shift work is required for these positions. Weekend and holiday shifts are required.

Candidates for these positions are eligible to receive a shift premium (10%) when assigned to either 2nd or 3rd shift.

This job classification also qualifies for the employee Referral Bonus Program. If you were referred to this job posting by a current DPS employee, and you are hired, that employee could qualify for a referral bonus.

Job duties include but are not limited to:
  1. Monitoring and supervising juveniles while housed, at school, and during all daily activities.
  2. Safety and security duties such as maintaining a secure environment and monitoring juveniles.
  3. Completing daily records, documenting safety violations, security breaches, shift briefings, crisis interventions, behavioral issues, and youth progress.
  4. Providing feedback to the treatment team and communicating treatment plans to clients.
  5. Providing counseling and therapeutic interventions, serving as part of a treatment team, and utilizing counseling techniques in crisis situations.
  6. Implementing treatment plans, administering assessments, and reviewing strategies for rehabilitation.
  7. Participating in developing treatment, educational, vocational, and community reintegration programs.
  8. Physical and Mechanical Restraints and Medication administration.

Please note: This is NOT an office position; it involves direct supervision and engagement at a Youth Development or Juvenile Detention Center near court-ordered youth.

Salary and Benefits

Initial salary depends on education and experience, with annual increases through a step pay plan. The salary ranges from $41,558 to $54,078 based on experience. Benefits include paid vacation, sick leave, holidays, retirement, and health insurance.

Work Schedule

Full-time, shift work including weekends, holidays, and evenings.

Qualifications and Requirements

Applicants must meet the Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSAs), including experience with behavioral and developmental techniques, crisis intervention, and addressing mental health or behavioral goals. Minimum education is a Bachelor's degree plus two years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination.

Additional requirements include passing a background check, drug screening, psychological and physical tests, and completing juvenile justice officer training if applicable.
