Spectrum is seeking a Youth Coach for an awake overnight role in our Youth Shelter. The position supports youths aged 18-24 to achieve housing stability, healing from trauma, and goal attainment per their service plans. You will model effective communication and ensure timely record-keeping, with weekend overnight hours and a base rate plus shift differential.

The role requires flexibility, travel for activities, and collaboration with staff to promote program growth and resident well-being.

Qualifications

  • Minimum one year experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of adolescent development incl. mental health, trauma, attachment issues, and educational challenges.
  • Knowledge of life skills work including meal preparation, budgeting, cleaning, personal hygiene, and job readiness/employment skills.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and ability to set limits.
  • Commitment to diversity across gender, race, age, socio-economic level, sexual orientation, and religion.
  • Adherence to agency code of ethics and all policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Program activities that support residents to follow their service plans and achieve goals.
  • Take residents on activities, job searching, and volunteering opportunities.
  • Administer resident medication.
  • Maintain accurate and timely records (files, daily data entry, incidents, emails, time sheets).
  • Communicate shift updates and resident status with other staff.
  • Attend bi-weekly supervision and weekly staff meetings.
  • Support training of new staff and respite personnel.
  • Contribute to overall growth and improvement of the housing program.

Are you ready to make a real difference in the lives of young people? Join our team as a Youth Coach in the Youth Shelter! In this awake overnight role, you’ll be a beacon of hope and stability for youth aged 18-24, helping them achieve their goals and heal from past trauma.

This position provides support for, and encourages, residents to achieve the goals outlined in their service plan. As an important part of this community, you’ll help youth achieve housing stability, heal from trauma, and accomplish their goals. Staff will model effective, appropriate, and timely communication with others regarding resident updates. Timely and accurate completion of record keeping is also essential to this position. This is an awake shift; staff must be awake during the entire shift. The weekend overnight shift hours are Saturday & Sunday 1:30 – 9:30 am with a base rate of $21.63 plus a $5.00 shift differential.

Essential Functions
  • Programming
  • Support and encourage residents to carry out daily routines and achieve goals outlined in their service plans.
  • Take residents on activities, job searching and or to volunteer opportunities.
  • Administer resident medication.
  • Responsible for accurate and timely completion of record keeping including:
    • Individual client files, daily data entry, documents critical incidents
    • Daily follow-up with e-mail and voice mail
    • Time sheets, expense reports
  • Communication and cross over with other staff is expected including the following:
    • Update on the shift and status of all residents
    • Medication, UA, critical information discussed
  • Participation and attendance is expected at bi-weekly individual supervision and weekly staff meetings
  • Support the training of new staff and respite personnel as assigned.
  • Contribute and participate in the overall growth and improvement of the supported housing program.
Knowledge and Skills Required
  • High school degree required; bachelor’s degree preferred. Minimum one year experience working with at-risk youth in a residential setting or equivalent experience.
  • Knowledge and understanding of adolescent development including the following: mental health and substance abuse issues; trauma; attachment issues; complex family dynamics; developmental challenges and educational issues.
  • Knowledge of life skills work including meal preparation, budgeting, cleaning, & personal hygiene, job readiness/employment skills.
  • Maintain appropriate boundaries and ability to set limits.
  • Commitment to the value of diversity with respect to gender, race, age, socio-economic level, sexual orientation, and religion.
  • Adherence to agency code of ethics and all policies and procedures.
  • Valid driver’s license preferred.

This position requires flexibility and travel for activities, client appointments, etc. Due to the nature of supported housing work shifts include days, evenings, awake overnights, weekends, and holidays, schedules and shifts are subject to change. May require sitting, standing, general use of stairs, and lifting or moving up to 10 pounds.
