Job summary

Nexus Family Healing in Portland, Oregon, is seeking a Youth Care Professional for the 2nd shift in our residential program serving youth ages 10-17 with mental and developmental disabilities. You will help implement the therapeutic plan and supervise residents in daily living activities at Walden Crossing, a secure location with strong staff support.

The role requires a compassionate, team‑oriented individual with a High School Diploma and a valid driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Must be 21 years of age.
• Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent.
• Must have a valid driver's license.
• Desire to work in human services and with at-risk youth.
• Ability to build relationships with diverse individuals and communities.
• Willing to meet cultural needs and values of clients.
• Completion of a three-part Nonviolent Crisis Intervention exam and training.

Responsibilities

• Support and reinforce the therapeutic plan for residents.
• Mentor and supervise daily activities and behavior per guidelines.
• Work with coworkers to implement treatment plans and therapies.
• Adapt interactions to client phases, privileges, and restrictions.

Nexus Family Healing is looking to add a Youth Care Professional 2nd Shift team member to join our residential location in Portland, Oregon!

This small PRTF program serves up to six youth at a time, ages 10-17 with mental and developmental disabilities who have become involved in the justice system. The program, located at Nexus’ Walden Crossing, is a secure location, providing high staff to youth ratios as well as 24/7 nursing, recreational and therapeutic professionals, psychiatric services, and an array of other types of therapies.

Schedule/Pay/Location:

• Afternoon (2nd) shift 30 hours: Thursday -Saturday 1:00pm - 11:30pm
• Pay Rate: $23.00+ per hour
• Walden Crossing Address: 722 NE 162nd Ave, Portland OR 97320

As a Youth Care Professional, you will:

• Support and reinforce the therapeutic plan of clients by providing guidance and direction to residents in their daily living activities
• Provide mentorship and supervision of the resident's daily activities and behavior according to established guidelines and procedures
• Participate with coworkers as a team in the implementation of treatment plans and therapeutic services
• Remain cognizant of individual client phases, privileges, restrictions, and adapt interactions accordingly
• Ensure resident safety and collaborate with coworkers to maintain an environment that is positive, respectful, clean, and therapeutic
• Work effectively with clients’ families/support networks to reinforce positive family partnerships; follow established protocols in the use of family engagement and involvement techniques
• Plan and participate in off-campus resident activities and assist in the transportation of clients to home visits, doctor appointments, and planned recreational activities

Required Qualifications:

• Must be 21 Years of Age
• Must have a High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Must have a valid driver's license
• A desire to work in the human services field & caring for at-risk youth
• Must have the ability to build strong relationships with diverse individuals or communities and understand their unique needs and challenges.
• Must be open to meeting the cultural needs of individuals or communities, considering factors such as language, traditions, and values.
• Successfully participate and complete a three-part Nonviolent Crisis Intervention exam and training

Physical Demands

• Must be able to assist staff in physical interventions and restraints of clients
• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted and up to 100 pounds with assistance
• Must be able to stand and walk for extended periods of time (2-4 hours)
• Must be able to twist, bend and stretch in a manner conducive to the execution of daily activities within a residential treatment facility
