Job summary

Old Colony YMCA seeks a Youth Care Advocate to ensure a safe, supportive environment for clients and to apply YMCA, DCF and DEEC policies. The role emphasizes compassionate counseling, positive role modeling and cooperation with staff and the Program Director.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 21 years old.
• High School education or the equivalent.
• Basic computer knowledge is required.
• Must be able to read and write cohesively for incident reporting.
• Yearly completion of DEEC required and OCY training programs.

Responsibilities

• Staffing must follow 24-hour coverage and safety rules.
• Follow security procedures and provide a safe environment.
• Monitor clients daily and enforce program rules on/off unit.
• Plan and supervise activities during free time for clients.
• Conduct intake and discharge procedures with proper paperwork.
• Complete required documentation and reports on shift.
• Intervene calmly in crises and use Therapeutic Crisis Intervention Skills; restraints if necessary.
• Attend required meetings and trainings; maintain certifications.
• Possess advocacy responsibilities for assigned residents.
• Report suspected child abuse to Supervisor or DCF.
• Assist with meals and laundry; maintain punctual attendance.
• Obtain Program Director approval before leaving shift.
• Adhere to YMCA, DCF and DEEC policies; CARF standards.
• Work collaboratively with team and follow dress code policy.
• Complete monthly resident reports; support other OCY programs as directed.
• May assume PIC responsibilities and manage emergency procedures.
• Keep emergency procedures posted and followed by staff.
