Job summary

Mt. Prospect Park District is seeking a Youth Basketball Scorekeeper to supervise and record scores and operate the game clock for youth basketball games. Part-time position with games starting in early December and running through mid-March, primarily Saturdays with some Sundays at RecPlex or Central Community Center.

Applicants must be at least 16 years old and pass a background check. Starting wage is $15.00 per hour, with benefits for park district facility usage.

Qualifications

With seven primary facilities and 27 neighborhood parks, the Park District is an integral part of a thriving multi-generational community. District open space includes two outdoor pools, biking and walking paths, a dog park and sizable space for outdoor athletic programming. The District covers over 11 square miles and serves a region of over a quarter million residents in Mount Prospect and surrounding communities.

The Mt. Prospect Park District is searching for a Youth Basketball Scorekeeper to supervise and keep the scorebook and clock for the Mt. Prospect Park District’s Youth basketball games. The Youth Basketball Scorekeeper is a part-time position. Youth Basketball games will begin in early December and end in mid-March. Hours will be on the weekend (mostly Saturdays with select Sundays), at either the RecPlex or Central Community Center. Candidates must be at least 16 years old and able to successfully pass a criminal background check. The starting pay for the part-time Youth Basketball Scorekeeper is $15.00 per hour, depending on qualifications. Additionally, we offer benefits for park district facility and programming usage.

Essential Duties

• Arrive to assigned site 15 minutes before the first scheduled game time while wearing park district-issued staff shirt.
• Depending on the sport, there will be two-person crews working together. One person will keep the score in the scorebook and the other person will operate the clock and keep score on the scoreboard.
• Set up the scorer’s table and chairs, scorebook and the scoreboard. Set up spectators seating area and players’ area, depending location.
• Inspect the playing area and make sure it is safe for play.
• In order to be paid timely, employees must submit completed timesheets and result cards at the completion of the games and returned to the Athletic Department by the end of the next following business day.
• When games are done, scorekeepers are responsible for putting away the scoreboard and scorer’s table as well as cleaning up the bleachers and spectators’ seating areas and the gym, if applicable.
• Set-up and location of equipment will vary from site to site. The Athletic Staff will inform you of your site set-up when you are assigned a location. You may be required to work at more than one site during the season.
• Act as a liaison between Park District patrons and management.
• Attend necessary staff meetings.
• Follow all Park District rules and policies.

Secondary Duties

Additional functions as assigned which may be considered essential.

Responsible for all other duties as assigned by the Athletics Supervisor, Athletics Manager, Superintendent of Recreation, Director of Recreation, and/or the Executive Director. However, in an emergency, perform all other duties as required.

Qualifications

• Must be at least 16 years of age.
• Must be able to work the scoreboard and keep score in the scorebook.
• Must be able to complete the required time sheets and the result cards and submit to Athletics in a timely manner.
• Must be able to communicate effectively with others to allow for the coordination of work, safety, and in emergency situations if needed.
• Must be able to demonstrate good judgment and common sense. Must be able to recognize unsafe conditions and emergencies and respond accordingly.Must be able to stand and/or sit for long periods of time. Must be able to stoop, bend and kneel as needed. Must be able to occasionally lift 50 pounds from a squat position.
• Must be reliable and able to work independently. Regular and reliable attendance is an essential function of the Scorekeeper position.
• Must be able to abide by the guidelines and policies set by the Park District.
• As an Athletic Department Scorekeeper, you are representing the Park District’s Athletic Department and its programs. It is very important that our scorekeepers conduct themselves in a professional manner at all times.
• They must display a positive attitude in regards to the park district, its employees and programs.

Due to the needs of the Park District, evening and weekend hours may be required. Your work schedule may vary.
