Job summary

Town of West Springfield is seeking Youth Basketball Referees to officiate youth leagues for Kindergarten through 10th grade. You will ensure fair calls, manage game time, review ground rules with coaches, and maintain safety and sportsmanship on the court.

Shifts are Saturdays and/or Sundays (8:00am-7:00pm) and the season runs from late November through mid-March. Must be at least 14 years old, wear the assigned uniform, and submit required reports. Compensation is $15.00 per game.

Qualifications

• Strong knowledge of the game and basketball rules.
• Ability to take the initiative to do the work that needs to be done.
• Ability to work independently.
• Self-motivator and good decision making skills.
• Ability to jog for lengthy periods during officiating.
• Ability to deal with public diplomatically and respectfully.

Responsibilities

• Officiates youth basketball games and enforces specific league rules.
• Ensures equipment is safely set up and players are in proper uniform.
• Talks with each coach before the game and reviews ground rules or unusual circumstances.
• Keeps track of game time and final scores.
• Submits reports when required.
• Renders First Aid & CPR within ability to do so.
• Represents the West Springfield Park & Recreation Department professionally.
