Job summary

Northbrook Park District is seeking a Youth Basketball Referee for the Sports Center in Northbrook, IL 60062. You will officiate games for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, helping create a fun, safe environment while teaching basic basketball concepts.

This part-time role runs Saturdays 8:30 AM–3:30 PM, with potential additional weeknight hours as a Basketball Attendant. Ideal candidates are 16+ years old, able to enforce rules with professionalism, and comfortable working with young children.

Qualifications

• Must be 16 years of age or older.
• Knowledge of the games supervised; or equivalent training/experience.
• Ability to communicate effectively in professional situations.

Responsibilities

• Officiate and enforce league rules during assigned games.
• Educate players and coaches on game rules.
• Be punctual for all games and ensure timely start/end of games.
• Enforce safety rules and maintain player conduct.
• Submit accident and incident reports as required.
• Coordinate with supervisor regarding issues during games.

Join the Northbrook Park District as a Youth Basketball Referee and help create a fun, safe, and positive environment for young athletes. We are looking for dependable individuals with a passion for sports and a commitment to fair play. This position is responsible for officiating and maintaining control of assigned games, primarily for Kindergarten and 1st Grade, and must be comfortable working with young children and helping teach the game. Demonstrates commitment to the Mission, Vision and Guiding Principles of the District.

Pay & Schedule

$15.40 - $17.75 Per Hour

This is a part-time, non-exempt position, Saturdays from 8:30 AM - 3:30 PM.

Additional Weeknight hours may be available as a Basketball Attendant

Anticipated Start Date: 10/31/26

Duties & Responsibilities

• Adhere to and enforce all rules as specified by the league.


• Educate players and coaches on the rules of the game.


• Be prompt for all games.


• Ensures games are started and ended on schedule.


• Enforce rules of the game(s), maintain control of the game and conduct of players.


• Professionally enforces rules, regulations and policies of the Northbrook Park District.


• Cancel or delay a game in progress due to hazardous field or weather conditions.


• In case of a protest or another problem/situation arises, an official must give their input to the Supervisor/Director.


• Report scores to Supervisor or Site Director.


• Accurately completes and submits Accident Reports for all injuries and Incident Reports as needed.


• Independently procures a substitute when unable to work and immediately informs Leisure Services Supervisor of impending absence.


• Wears issued Northbrook Park District apparel at all times when on duty.


• Diligently follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures.


• Collaborates with internal and external customers in a positive manner.


• Follows safe work practices.


• Attends trainings and meetings as required.


• May be required to personally maintain or have access to facility keys, fobs, or codes for facility access.


• Completes special assignments or tasks as requested by direct supervisor.


• Performs related duties as assigned.

Must be 16 years of age or older and possess knowledge of the games supervised; or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the following knowledge, ability and skills.
