Job summary

The City of New York seeks a Youth Apprentice for the DYCD program in New York. You will shadow DAP staff, learn contract development, and assist with program quality monitoring to support communities.

You will conduct outreach to providers, update system records, and help collect data, track progress, and prepare clear summary reports. Residency and student status are required for eligibility.

• Fulfillment of all minimum requirements for age prescribed by the New York State Department of Labor for Registered Apprenticeships

Responsibilities

• Shadow DAP staff and learn processes in contract development and program quality monitoring
• Conduct outreach to contracted providers and update CBO contact information in DAP systems
• Assist with obtaining End of Year Reports and desk reviews through follow-up calls
• Track project progress and collect data for summaries and presentations
• Prepare summary reports and support DYCD liaison on special projects as needed

Job description

The New York City Department of Youth and Community Development (DYCD) invests in a network of community-based organizations and programs to alleviate the effects of poverty and to provide opportunities for New Yorkers and communities to flourish.

Employment in this title is restricted to students enrolled in and attending high school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a high school student.

FIRST YEAR – Orientation and Introduction to Work Fall/Winter 2023, HSSAs will shadow the work of DAP staff and learn about:

• NYC Discretionary Award Process (e.g., from budget to cleared list of awards)
• Discretionary Award contract development (e.g., completing a contract submission)
• Program quality monitoring and compliance (e.g., confirming services and reporting)
• Supporting our communities through Awardees (e.g., CB & TA, promoting partnerships, etc.) Spring/summer 2024, HSSAs will continue to shadow DAP staff and begin to assist in:
• Conducting outreach to contracted providers by:
• Updating CBO contact information in DAP systems (e.g., check cleared list against ECMS) b. Obtaining End of Year Reports and/or assisting with desk reviews (e.g., assisting with follow-up calls)
• Tracking project progress by:
• Collecting and analyzing data (e.g., assisting with tracking project progress)
• Preparing summary reports (e.g., making sure information is up to date and presentable) Additionally, HSSAs will also assist with DYCD inter-unit and other special projects where they will be responsible for representing DAP as a liaison.

YEARS 2 AND 3 As HSA skills develop and experience increases, greater responsibility and involvement in the above will be delegated to each aide.
