Job Objective

The Youth & Community Ministries Coordinator is responsible for managing and overseeing the daily operations of youth programs and community ministries at The Salvation Army (TSA) Eagle Creek Corps Community Center. This role involves collaborating with the Corps Officers, and other key TSA Staff, as well as schools, community groups, and partner ministries to develop and implement programs that meet the needs of the local community, particularly focusing on youth development and community engagement.

The Youth Ministries will oversee the spiritual life of TSA Eagle Creek congregants 0-18 by assuming responsibility for coordinating and administrating an effective and comprehensive ministry. This position requires attendance at The Salvation Army Eagle Creek Corps Community Center on Sunday Mornings.

What You Will Do

  • Program Management: Oversee the daily activities of the Eagle Creek Corps Community Center, including leagues, rentals, and community events. Ensure that all programs are welcoming and inclusive for families and individual of all ages and backgrounds.
  • Youth Development: Lead and enhance existing youth programs, such as Sunday School and Thrive, by developing engaging activities and spiritual programming for youth aged 0-18. Plan and execute one “youth Night” each month to foster community and spiritual growth.
  • Community Engagement: Actively work with schools, community groups, and academic ministries to promote participation and support for youth programs including Sunday morning activities. Communicate the needs and successes of the community center programming to various stakeholders including Corps Council, service clubs, and media.
  • Budget Management: Evaluate funding needs, including program registration fees for events and leagues, ensuring compliance with approved budgets and policies. Develop and submit budget proposals for new ministries and monitor expenditures based on funding allocations.
  • Volunteer Recruitment and Development: Identify, recruit, train, and supervise volunteers to support various programs.
  • Curriculum Implementation: Implement and evaluate curriculum as directed and/or provided by The Salvation Army leadership. Evaluate needs related to space, budget, and resources for youth & community activities.
  • Seasonal Support: In coordination with the Corps Officers, plan, develop, and/or coordinate summer and other out of school activities including (but not limited to) VBS, Summer Day Camp, and activities at Hidden Falls Camp.

Assist during the Christmas Campaign and other seasonal events as directing by the Corps Officer.

  • Other tasks as assigned by leadership

Minimum Qualifications: The requirements listed below are representative of the minimal education, experience, skills, and/or abilities required for this position.

Education: A minimum of a bachelor’s degree in organized recreation or physical education or a related major, from an accredited college or university and three years’ experience in a related field, or any equivalent combination of education and/or experience from which comparable knowledge, skills, and abilities have been achieved. Or a minimum of a bachelor’s degree in ministry related field

Background Checks: Position requires a background check to be completed, and all background check results will be reviewed.

Experience: A minimum of 3 years in athletic ministries (e.g. events and leagues), along with experience and knowledge of fitness and/or exercise regiments and a demonstrated record of effective community outreach and program development, implementation, execution, and evaluation. A minimum of 3 years of youth-related work including program implementation, recruitment, and retainment; a knowledge of the 40 Developmental Asset framework preferred.

Certifications: Must have a valid driver’s license and maintain The Salvation Army Driver’s qualification standard; must complete Safe From Harm training within the first 90 days of employment. Skills/Abilities:

  • Able to speak, write and understand English in a manner sufficient for effective communication with leadership, field personnel, and clientele.
  • Computer proficiency with Microsoft products and ability to learn electronic reporting systems.
  • The ability to write reports, effectively present information, and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
  • Candidate must be passionate about community outreach, development, sports management and youth development, and spiritual care.

Supervisory Responsibility: This position supervises various volunteer positions in the Community Center. May supervise seasonal employees such as day camp staff, and other seasonal program staff.

Physical Requirements Include

  • Good speaking, hearing and vision ability, and excellent manual dexterity
  • Lifting, pulling, and pushing of materials up to 25 pounds

Travel: The position may require occasional and overnight travel for training, events, and community relations. An official vehicle will be provided.

Working Conditions: Work is performed in a Christian-based community center environment; you should be able to be flexible between office work, church setting, indoor recreational facility, and outdoor activities. This job requires regular weekend and evening activities.
