Job summary

Axess Family Services, Inc. is seeking a Youth Advocate for the Youth Development Program (WIA-CCMEP) in Ohio.

This full-time role involves mentoring and supporting youth and young adults to overcome barriers to self-sufficiency, with emphasis on educational support, financial literacy, and leadership development. The position offers a 40-hour work week, with salary between $32,500 and $35,000 per year, and schedule determined on a case-by-case basis.

Qualifications

  • BS or BA from an accredited university preferred.
  • Social service or mental health experience required.
  • Experience with children required.

Responsibilities

  • Provide mentoring services for youth and young adults facing barriers to success.
  • Plan and participate in meetings with mentees to occur twice a month.
  • Plan and participate in quarterly group mentoring activities.
  • Assist participants in identifying their academic area of need and develop a plan to meet that need.
  • Schedule and maintain regular meetings with youth to reach identified academic goals.
  • Communicate regularly with participant’s school of record and teaching staff to plan for successful completion of the academic year and/or graduation.
  • Assist participants with activities that help prepare for and transition to post-secondary education and training.
  • Provide referrals for dropout prevention, recovery services, and alternative secondary school options when appropriate.
  • Plan and facilitate meetings for skills for independent living.
  • Accompany group members on field trips.
  • Provide referrals for additional services when a need identified.
  • Transport participants as needed for program success.
  • Complete all necessary program documentation in a timely manner.
  • Maintain regular communication with CCMEP case managers.
  • Attend PCJFS meetings as requested.
  • Represent the agency/program to the public in a positive and energetic manner.
  • Comply with grant requirements, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.

General Statement of Duties

Help youth and young adults overcome barriers to self-sufficiency by providing services such as mentoring, educational support, and involvement in individual and group meetings related to financial literacy, independent living skills, entrepreneurship/leadership.

Essential Responsibilities
  1. Provide mentoring services for youth and young adults facing barriers to success.
  2. Plan and participate in meetings with mentees to occur twice a month.
  3. Plan and participate in quarterly group mentoring activities.
  4. Assist participants in identifying their academic area of need and develop a plan to meet that need.
  5. Schedule and maintain regular meetings with youth to reach identified academic goals.
  6. When suitable, communicate regularly with participant’s school of record and teaching staff to plan for a successful completion of the academic year and/or graduation.
  7. Assist participants with activities that help prepare for and transition to post-secondary education and training.
  8. Provide connections for dropout prevention, recovery services, and alternative secondary school options when appropriate.
  9. Plan and facilitate individual and group meetings that provide skills for a successful transition to independent living.
  10. Accompany group members on field trips.
  11. Provide all participants with referrals for additional services when a need has been identified.
  12. Transport participants as needed for program success.
  13. Complete all necessary program documentation in a timely manner.
  14. Maintain regular communication with PCJFS CCMEP case managers.
  15. Attend PCJFS meetings as requested.
  16. Represent the agency/program to the public in a positive and energetic manner.
  17. Comply with all grant requirements, including evaluation.
  18. Comply with agency policies and procedures, COA regulations, federal and state requirements, and educational/certification/registry requirements.
  19. Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
  • Valid Ohio Driver’s License and ability to meet agency requirements for driving.
  • Must be able to meet agency requirements for criminal background check (Ohio Bureau of Criminal Identification & Investigation).
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and the aptitude to develop effective relationships.
  • Strong computer skills.
Minimum Educational/License Requirements

BS or BA from accredited university preferred.

Minimum Experience Requirements

Social Service or mental health experience required. Experience with children required.

Physical Requirements

Position will require transporting participants.
