The Child Center Residential Treatment Facility (RTF) is a coeducational program in a warm, supportive environment serving young people aged 12-18 with multiple psychiatric hospital placements or juvenile justice involvement. It is the only dual NYS Office of Mental Health/Office of Children and Family Services facility downstate. Our goal is to provide young people with the necessary skills and support for long-term success.

Reflecting The Child Center’s dedication to comprehensive care, the RTF is staffed by clinical coordinators, psychiatric providers, a pediatrician, 24-hour nursing staff, and 24-hour youth advocates. Supports are individualized to meet the needs of each young person.

In This Role You Will:

The Youth Advocate is responsible for the ongoing care and supervision of residents across all phases of their lives within the facility.

Essential Functions:

• Assist adolescents in learning and mastering basic activities of daily living
• Support clients in social interaction, educational and vocational development, and building interpersonal relationships
• Encourage and foster an emotionally supportive environment
• Mediate verbal disputes and serve as a positive behavioral role model, demonstrating respectful social interactions
• Facilitate and assist therapists during group sessions or other treatments
• Perform other related duties as assigned

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or GED; enrolled in an AA/BA degree program preferred but not required
• Experience working with children aged 12-18 with trauma, mental health, or psychological issues is a plus but not mandatory
• Strong communication and organizational skills
• Must demonstrate patience and ability to remain calm in stressful situations; training will be provided
