If you love kids, there is no better place to invest in the lives of children than the AYCC! We are looking for Substitute Afterschool Program Counselors to work with the kids and guide them in their activities and support their growth. As a sub, you would work on an "as needed" basis. This is a great option for anyone who wants to work with kids but cannot commit to a counselor's regular schedule at 20 hours per week.

Benefits include paid time off, a free AYCC Family Membership (includes 4 adults and an unlimited amount of kids), and the possibility of FREE or discounted childcare!

Childcare staff are also eligible for a monthly bonus. Once qualifications are completed, employees will be eligible for the Maine DHHS monthly childcare worker salary supplement. This ranges from $240 to $540 depending on credentials, experience, and education.

POSITION SUMMARY:

This position is responsible for leading a group of children in After-School program activities as well as guiding/helping the children adjust and grow within the program guidelines. Participate in the instruction of arts and crafts, games, and education programs with the Afterschool Program children and encourage them in their growth.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  1. Demonstrate willingness to participate in all areas of the After-School Program.
  2. Responsible for a group of thirteen (13) children, helping each child adjust and grow with other children within the program guidelines.
  3. Plan and implement daily curriculum for children to follow.
  4. Ability to observe student behavior and assess its appropriateness, enforce relevant safety regulations and emergency procedures, and apply appropriate behavior management techniques.
  5. Maintain safety, cleanliness, and discipline of children, area, and equipment.

WORK SCHEDULE:

  1. Part-time.
  2. Schedule is based on need and varies from 0-20 hours per week.

KNOWLEDGE/EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:

  1. High School Education or GED is required.
  2. Must be 18 years of age or older.

SKILLS & COMPETENCIES:

  1. Skills in problem solving.
  2. Must have excellent communication skills and the ability to work with groups participating (age and skill level), and provide necessary instruction to children.

EXPERIENCE:

  1. 2 years of relevant experience.
  2. CPR/First Aid certification or ability to obtain certification is required.
  3. Basic childcare skills required.
